Cortez Training Camp

Cortez, CO, USA · Cork and Spoke Adventure Society

About this event

Everyone is invited to join in on the fun- there is no cost (beside the obvious ones that lodging and meals require each day). The concept is a coming together of anyone keen on exploring a new part of the world, use the week for base miles for all your upcoming adventures, find new motivations as groups spontaneously form to tackle any challenge mutually agreed upon. Bring all your bikes- the focus will be on gravel riding as we base ourselves deep in the heart of the famed McElmo canyon but plan on a road day to Mesa Verde, a mountain day at Phil's world. Really, there's no limit to what we will find. There will be rides of 30-100 miles created each day, groups will sort themselves into distances and speeds, routes and meeting spots collaborated upon each evening at dinner and revised at breakfast the morning of. A close knit group of people who like getting lost, trying to find what they were really looking for all along, together. Please reach out with questions and a desire to attend. The is no registration page yet so please contact Aaron or Misti.

Volunteer info

This event is not limited to just cyclists. Co-founders Aaron Dallas (lifelong cyclist) and Misti Alders (lifelong foodie and photographer of tiny details) created this group for everyone who is a cyclist cohabitating with normal people. Plan on a week's worth of activities not on the bike for anyone who doesn't ride. Or, bring a bike and ride bits and pieces of each day. Hikes, tours, food, wine, rescues, discoveries, all as culturally diverse as possible. Plan on immersing yourself in everything that Cortez and the Southwest corner of Colorado offers. The finest winery in Colorado will always host us for a day's viticultural education- https://www.sutcliffewines.com .

Lodging

The group will be based at the Canyon of the Ancients Guest ranch- https://canyonoftheancients.com .There are 21 beds on offer in various configurations. First come, first served. Also nearby is this very enticing spot- https://www.kellyplace.com. Van lifers are very welcome to attend but will not be able to stay on site. We will find the closest spot to accommodate you, please reach out for coordination. We will be cooking as a group in the lodge facilities and will host local chef's and cuisines including Navajo, Spanish and new school Cortez style.
