Kaw Valley Bicycle Club

The Kaw Valley Bicycle Club is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote a general interest in bicycling for all types of cyclists—tourists, racers, commuters, and casual riders. Our membership is based in Topeka, Kansas. The club takes its name from the Kansas or “Kaw” River flowing through Topeka. Besides organizing three annual rides (the Capitol Classic, Cottonwood 200, and Bruce Whaley Spirit Ride) and hosting weekly rides, our Board of Directors advocate for cycling both inside the city and around the state. We are a member of the League of American Bicyclists, a national cycling advocacy organization, and are working to make Topeka a Bicycle Friendly Community. Some of our local recent efforts include: Membership on the Topeka Bikeway Master Plan committee Lobbying for Kansas’s 3-Foot and Dead Red Laws Advocating for expansion of trails within the city Proceeds from our Bruce Whaley Spirit Ride are donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to benefit patients in our area. We also contribute to other related causes, such as the Topeka Community Cycle Project.
