About this event

On Saturday, Sept. 23rd the 3rd Annual Dirty Squirrel Gravel Grind (DSGG) bike race will take place at Minocqua Winter Park (MWP). These timed races got its name from MWP’s Squirrel Hill, where the historic fire tower is located. The gravel bike racecourse is a mix of the cross-country ski trails at Minocqua Winter Park and Oneida County's beautiful gravel roads. It’s a scenic and diverse bike tour around Wisconsin’s largest land-held conservation easement.

There will be three distances:
·     Mini Nut (ages 12 & under) - 3 miles
·     Little Nut - 12 miles - 500 ft of elevation change
·     Big Nut - 30 miles - 1250 ft of elevation change

All three races begin and end in front of the Minocqua Winter Park Chalet. Racers get a free drink ticket and swag! There will be food for purchase available onsite. There will be lawn games, exhibitors, youth entrepreneurs set up for Fall Fest following the race. Enjoy a hike, relax in a hammock, or head up to the Squirrel Hill overlook to enjoy the fall colors or take a post race bike ride to explore the diverse trails and sites around the park. Mini Nut

3 mi · ↗ 25 ft · 15% gravel · $20 entry

This is a short and sweet 3-mile race on the Minocqua Winter Park cross crountry ski trails. The route does start will a gradual uphill but opens up with rollers along our "Cookie Loop" ski trail. The terrain is a mix of hard-packed dirt and grass.

LIttle Nut

12.5 mi · ↗ 500 ft · 75% gravel · $40 entry

Little Nut is one lap around this route and has 500 ft of elevation gain. Primarily gravel roads with several miles of hard packed, grassy/dirt cross country ski trails.

Big Nut

24.7 mi · ↗ 1,250 ft · 75% gravel · $60 entry

The gravel bike racecourse is a mix of the cross-country ski trails at Minocqua Winter Park and Oneida County's beautiful gravel roads. It’s a scenic and diverse bike tour around Wisconsin’s largest conservation easement. The majority of the race is on gravel, but also be prepared for a big downhill on the cross country ski trails which are hard packed and grassy.
