The Dirty Pizza
Alstead, NH, USA · Orchard Hill Breadworks
About this event
We've pulled the best bits of local riding into these loops and we can't wait to share them. Panoramic views across the river valley into Vermont, quiet rolling gravel, no shortage of leg-busting climbs, and a good helping of Class VI — the unmaintained old town roads that make this ride what it is.
Saturday
- Shakeout ride led by your hosts if enough sign ups
- Swim in the lake
- Wood-fired feast at the pavilion
- Camping on site
- Complimentary breakfast and coffee
- Four routes to choose from (links below) + a Family Friendly ride
- A staffed feed stop on every route, stocked with Orchard Hill Breadworks baked goods, water, drink mix, fruit, and maple syrup shots
- Post-ride pizza and dessert for all riders. Eat up — we're not counting slices.
Navigation
The courses are self-navigated, and there is little to no marking on course. We like arrows, but we share these roads and trails with a wide range of other users, and it's become clear not everyone shares our enthusiasm for them. No arrows beats wrong arrows.
GPS files and cue sheets go out by email two to three days before the event. Ride with a navigation device. Printed cue sheets are available at check-in — take one even if you're sure you won't need it. Batteries die, units freeze, and there are no arrows to fall back on.
What to bring
- Good, Bad and Ugly: 45 - 50mm tires if you have them. Back in the day we were riding these routes on 38s. Every time we ride them now, on something bigger, we think “How and Why!?!?”
- Type 1 Fun: rideable on 32mm, but you'll be happier on 38–42mm.
- This ride is self-supported. Bring what you need for flats and minor repairs, including two tubes.
- SAG is available on call, but on some sections that means walking a while to find cell reception or a road. Plan accordingly.
- Pizza is wood-fired with a range of toppings. Gluten-free crusts available.
- BYOB.
